The first Hopper restaurant was opened in Soho London, Uk by 3 siblings Jyotin, Karam, Sunaina, and her husband Karan in 2015. It takes its inspiration from Sri Lanka’s village toddy and street-side shops. It opened shop in 2017, 2020, and 2022 in Marylebone, King’s cross, and Doha respectively.
The restaurant is very tastefully done, it has the feel of a restaurant in a village in that part of the world. The restaurant somehow relaxes you as soon as you enter.
The Servers are very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu itself is limited and carefully curated keeping in line with the theme of the toddy/street-side shop. Kothu, Dosa, Hopper, or Sambols, you name it they have it.
I found the curries to be a bit heavy like any other restaurant south Asian restaurant and not at all like the ones I had on my trip to Sri Lanka. But the Egg hoppers were cooked to perfection. The yellow runny just as I like my eggs to be. Oh before I forget let me mention the Bone marrow Varuval .This was the show-stopper of the afternoon. Perfect is the only thing I can think of. Never ever have I tasted anything like this!
Here is the Menu for your perusal! Remember it’s ever-changing, so confirm with the restaurant before booking.
